
Francis H. Mebane, Jr.
Francis H. Mebane II Francis Howard Mebane II was born May 13, 1920. He died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009. He was the third of five children born to the union of Francis and Lorena Mebane. He was preceded in death by three siblings: Gracie, Lorena, and Reginald Van Ness. His oldest brother, William Rhondo Mebane, lives in Pantego. He was married to Beulah Louise Whitfield for over 54 years. They had one daughter, Gracie LaNell. She married Thomas Fulton Vines of Farmville. They have one son, Justin Mebane Vines. He is married and stationed at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas with his wife, Alicia and son, Thomas Francis Vines. He also leaves to mourn a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, special family children, Tierney Evans and Bryan H. Pearce, a dear friend Mrs. Sallie Ebron, and Mrs. Deloris Brown. His goal in life was to educate and motivate youth to succeed. He accomplished this through lifelong service in secondary and collegiate education and through continuous involvement in religious, social, and fraternal organizations. His career in education started at S. W. Snowden School in Aurora. He worked 24 years at H. B. Sugg in Farmville. He spent the last 14 years of his professional career at Beaufort County Community College in Washington, N.C. His commitment to the Masonic Order spanned over 65 years of service. During his life, he received many citations, awards, recognitions and honors. He became a member of the Legion of Honor, an Honorary Past Potentate, and an Honorary Past Grand Master of the State of North Carolina. Funeral service will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Philippi Church of Christ in Greenville,. Burial will take place Monday, 10 am at the Brown Hill Cemetery in Greenville. Viewing will be held Saturday at the Congleton Memorial Mortuary from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to N.C.
